Trip To California

A week ago Wednesday we flew to California to visit grandpa Todd and grandma Pamela. Flying in and of itself was quite an adventure. Adam had his own seat because he is older than two. This meant that we had a whole row all to ourselves. I thought that this would make the whole trip easy-peasy-nice-and-breezy. However, Adam always seems to have his own ideas about such things. I spent the majority of the flight saying "no, no Adam....sit down Adam....keep your seatbelt on Adam....don't kick her seat Adam....we're almost there Adam." Caleb was no joy either. I thought he would eat the whole way and therefore be a happy boy. However, I failed to remember that choosing to feed Caleb anywhere but in the rocking chair results in loud complaining from him. Where did I get these opinionated, determined children? Despite all this, I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to fly. First of all, I don't know if our decrepit car would have made it to California in the heat. Second of all, no one's sleep schedule was interrupted by the trip. Sleep is worth any price at this point.

Some memories from our trip:

We went to visit great-grandma Bev and great-grandpa Jerry. Adam adored their golf cart and even tried to commandeer it once or twice.

We fed the ducks at the duck pond near their house. Adam was torn between wanting to feed them and wanting to scatter them all by running through the flock screaming.

Both my boys just love their great-grandma Bev. I think she is pretty special too.

Adam loves the trampoline. He had a hard time finding someone who loved it as much as he did poor thing.

Grandpa Todd was a good sport on several occasions.

We went to California to celebrate the marriage of Uncle Kevin and Aunt Kim with grandma Pamela's extended family. The newlyweds are very happy.

Adam had fun with the friends and cousins from his age group. He had many discussions with Emily about who should be first up the ladder.

He also learned how to play "mummy." I'm not quite sure what the goal of mummy is but I know everyone was quiet for a while which was nice.

I was able to visit my long-time friend Jodie during our visit. Her Emily and my Adam are only weeks apart. They are finally beginning to play together like people. That was fun to watch.

Her Ethan and my Caleb are only a month apart although Ethan is so big it is hard to tell who is older.

Eric spent some of his time in California helping grandpa Todd with the kitchen remodel. There was alot of standing around and planning before they got started but all of the upper cupboards were in before we left.

Adam thought it was his job to test all of grandpa Todd's tools. Scary isn't it.

And so we returned without incident. We had a wonderful time and Adam is already begging to go back. In a perfect world all of his grandparents would live only minutes away. Maybe one day....
