The Dirt Pile

Sometimes you just have to have a huge dirt pile delivered to your door.

I'm sure you all remember this big beautiful thing from last month. This month it was finally time to fill it with dirt.

The truck came while Eric was still at work so the kids and I watched as the delivery man backed into our driveway and dumped 14 cubic yards of garden blend topsoil in front of our garage. It was so beautiful that the boys couldn't resist climbing to the top as soon as the truck driver had driven away.

And that's pretty much where they stayed the whole day.

They weren't even a bit hampered by our attempts to cart the dirt to the backyard. Look at those dirty pants! Everyone was dark black by the end of the day.

A strong and handsome dirt shoveler. There was ALOT of dirt to be shoveled.

Wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow the men filled the box to the top.

Kimber made an excellent dirt smoother.

David and Seth took it upon themselves to compact the dirt manually. They found it easier to do if they held hands.

A dirt exchange. Serious business.

We had to trap the little ones so they didn't get in the way of the moving wheelbarrows. Andrew was pretty patient with the whole process.

Rebekah, on the other hand, took it for the personal insult it was and graced us all with complaints about her lot in life. Oh Rebekah.......

The finished project. Isn't that the most beautiful thing ever!

The finishing touches were some poultry fertilizer and automatic drip lines. I can't wait to see what my garden brings me this year!
