Happy 4th of July

Adam's first experience with a sparkler. He really enjoyed it until he picked up one that had recently gone out and burned himself. We have extras if anyone wants them.

We spent the 4th at Silver Lake with Eric's cousins and their children. Adam loved having all the kids around and being able to climb on the nearby boulders.

Eric and his cousin Lance on Silver Lake. I thought for a minute that they were enjoying each other's company so much that they weren't going to come back for Adam who desperately wanted a ride.

Thankfully they did come back and Adam quickly fell in love with the raft. Yes Eric, that glacier water is cold.

Adam enjoyed the ride so much that when it wasn't his turn he would pace back and forth on the shore sobbing, "I need to go in the boat" until they came back in. Then before they could reach shore he would run out and try to climb in. He got more turns than anyone else because no one wanted to see him drown.

Eric explaining to Adam that if he stops crying he can go back out on the boat.

Adam's unhappy compromise when he couldn't be on the boat anymore.

Eric and his cousins decided that it would be proof of their manliness if they ran and dove head first into the glacier water. It took them ten minutes to work up the gumption (shown above) and thirty seconds to run their frozen bodies back to shore afterwards.

Apparently, because the first attempt at proving their manliness was so successful, they decided to try again. This time they rowed away from shore and spent fifteen minutes deciding how they should enter the water. The wives left on shore were threatening to return to camp when they finally threw themselves in. Just for future reference, Eric was just as manly before he went than he was after. He was also dryer.
