Baby number four finally arrived on June 3rd. Weighing in at 8lbs 7oz and measuring 19 and 1/2 inches he was not our biggest baby but he was definitely a contender. Actually, he was much bigger than I thought he was going to be. I didn't start to feel extremely uncomfortable until just a few weeks before he was born so I assumed he would be a small baby like Adam.
David was born via planned cesarean thanks to his older brother's hurried exit five years ago. My experience in the hospital was pretty uncomfortable this time around. It took them four attempts and two doctors to get the epidural set. In their eagerness to accomplish their goal they numbed me all the way up to my lungs which gave me breathing issues. The actual surgery process went smoothly although David's head was so big that they had to enlarge my previous incision by a few inches. Now it is sadly uneven. The doctor obviously didn't fully understand my OCD tendencies and how much having an uneven scar would irritate me later on in life.
Thankfully David came out healthy and happy and was back in my arms after a quick trip to the nursery with the nurse. Much to my shock and amazement he immediately latched for feeding as if he was already a practiced nurser. All of the other boys have needed much prompting and begging to get them to do what they should in that department. My four day stay in the hospital was pretty quiet this time around and David and I took many, many catnaps and watched way too much tv. All in all it was a lovely time for bonding and recuperating.
This is our first time taking a picture in the surgery room. I think it turned out pretty good.
So relieved to get him out.
All cleaned up and ready to go.
David came out with an ugly blue bruise on his cheek. We can only assume that it came from Caleb's attempt to tackle me the night before David was born.
Flowers from my sweet husband for the recently slashed open mother.
The boys came to visit the baby the day after he was born. This was James's reaction. It reminds me of Caleb's facial expression after James's birth last year. Man I want to kiss those cheeks.
Caleb ADORES his baby. He really does think we had this baby just for him. So cute.
Some of my boys.
All of my boys. Wow there is a lot of them.
James's first attempt to poke the baby. It was not his last.
David's confusion from so much noise.
The boys decided to be busy after they met the new baby. James tried on David's beanie.
Caleb tried to call emergency services.
Adam decided to play with the sink. At that point it was time to send the loud ones home.
David and I took a long nap after they were gone.
After four days of rest and recovery we were finally ready to go home. Isn't this just about the cutest going-home-from-the-hospital outfit ever!? So happy for our new addition to Team Berg.
