Parotitis

In the middle of March Adam came down with a case of Parotitis which is an infection that results from the blockage and subsequent swelling of the salivary glands. For those of you who don't know, Eric used to have recurring parotitis when he was younger. I didn't really think it was hereditary but I guess I was wrong.

I had woken up Adam one morning for school and was busy getting his things together when he told me he couldn't go because his cheek hurt. I launched into a speech about how it was important to go to school even if our cheeks hurt. I then turned around and looked at him and saw this:

I quickly changed my tune and assured him there were indeed times that we stayed home when our cheeks hurt.

We went to the doctor who prescribed amoxicillin and....

Lots of sour candy to get those salivary glands working again. Of course Adam refused the candy because it wasn't part of his normal routine but the amoxicillin seemed to do the job.

He started to feel better the next day despite his chipmunk cheek. I guess now we wait to see if it happens again. Poor Adam.
