So you know that feeling you have when everything is going smoothly in life and you feel like you have the power to accomplish anything you set your mind to? I used to have that feeling quite often. These days I wonder if the feeling will ever return to me in this life. It seems each day starts with a prayer asking Heavenly Father to help me remember the things that MUST be done that day to ensure my family's happy existence on this earth. I'm afraid that blogging does not usually fall under that category. That being said, here I go again, a few months late but still carrying on.
Adam's goal is to earn every Wolf Scout award possible before his advancement in July. We have worked it into our school curriculum and I have been super busy visiting Hobby Lobby and Home Depot to search for the necessary supplies. This was our "build a model dinosaur out of recycled items" project. It took us all afternoon because even though Adam is our only cub scout, the other boys feel left out if we don't include them too. As you can you see, they were all quite pleased with themselves.
Adam's dinosaur was the biggest because of the goldfish box. It was quite fitting as well since goldfish are his favorite crackers.
David's dinosaur was mostly made from leftover items because we ran out of material by the time we made his. I didn't feel too bad since he is going to do this four times before it actually applies to him.
James wanted a Hershey's Syrup tail pretty badly. His ended up being the heaviest because of that and the apple juice bottle head.
Caleb's was my personal favorite. There's just something about that cone head and antennae that makes me smile. The dinosaurs only lasted a day due to David's eagerness to experiment with them but it was a fun project nonetheless.
We also needed to conduct our own dino dig for the award. The kids each hid an object in plaster of Paris and then used tools to chip them out. It kept everyone quiet for ten minutes straight! Also, I am happy to report that no one was injured in their attempts. Oh happy day!
Our last part of "Digging In The Past" was placing animal crackers in a cup with different layers of chocolate pudding, graham cracker crumbs, and whipped cream so we could visualize fossils buried in different layers of soil. By the time we had finished layering everything the boys wouldn't even touch the stuff. Sissies! Rebekah had no such hesitations and she was quickly covered in pudding and and crackers. Such a dainty thing!
