Nine days and counting. I keep trying to tell people that the baby is coming on the fifth and they look at me dubiously like: "Really? You are so naive. Babies don't come on their due date silly young mother." Won't it surprise them all when Caleb does indeed arrive via cesarean on the 5th of April, just as the doctors have scheduled. I'm not silly. I just enjoy planning and scheduling.
Adam is exhibiting the psychological strain of someone who knows that something is coming but can't quite explain what. He didn't let me leave him in nursery today. I think we have reached the point when he would just rather stay glued to my side at all times. I spend most of my days trying to keep life as normal as possible for him while still reminding him cheerfully that Caleb is arriving soon. Sometimes he tells me he wants a baby. Sometim
es he tells me there is no Caleb. There really isn't anything I can do about it now. Caleb is coming. We set up Caleb's miniature crib in our room and of course Adam had to give it a spin. Adam used to sleep in it himself when he was younger. As you can see from the picture, he has grown a little since then. Speaking of growing, Adam's new sentence today was: "Seriously, I need that." Eric and I just sort of stared at him in momentary confusion. After our shock wore off, Eric gave him the juice that he had so seriously needed. Strange child.
You know you are Caleb's mother to be when:
1. Adam starts running circles around the house in his large, noisy snow boots and the unborn child in your belly hears him and starts to run in circles as well.
2. You watch the doctor's face turn to panic as he searches for your child's heart beat and hears nothing, then relaxes as he watches your stomach contort and realizes the baby is fine, he just never sits still.
3. You are woken up at four in the morning by your March Madness pumped husband and your unborn child, upon hearing the voice of his father, decides that it is morning and proceeds to keep you from sleeping for the next two hours.
