Adam started first grade this year. It was a moment filled with much trepidation both for him and for me. His Kindergarten teacher had assured me that he was ready to move on to first grade in a traditional class setting. However, as I stared that morning at my six-year-old who has spd and a aversion to large groups of people, I couldn't help but wonder if we had made a mistake in choosing that route. As you can see, Adam thought it was a big mistake too.
Standing in line waiting for class to start. You can see the stress and anxiety written all over his sweet face.
I asked him if he could smile for the camera and although he tried his best.....
He just couldn't quite get over the gravity of his situation.
He finally became resigned to his fate right before they all walked in.
Since this stressful day last month Adam has been doing much better with the whole school scene. He smiles on his way to class and tells us stories about friends on the playground. I'm so proud of his ability to adapt and carry on even when he is obviously scared and overwhelmed with life. What an amazing individual he is.
