My little David turned one. I can hardly believe it. This last year seems to have flown by and I seem to have lost my baby with its passing. David certainly seems to think that he is all grown up. He wrestles with his brothers, runs from here to there, and repeats what I say if he finds the word particularly interesting. We were all so grateful to celebrate this special day with him and can't wait to enjoy another year of David.
David was the only one that got a homemade cake this year. How weird is that!? Caleb and James helped me apply the sprinkles. As you can see, they were very generous.
David realized that it was left a little too close too him.
And he quickly took advantage of the situation.
James didn't mind having a little taste either. It's always a challenge for Eric and I to keep our eye on the undefiled parts of the cake so we can dib them as ours. I think we probably failed this time.
My boys often work as one and can appear much like a swarm to an outsider. However, their individual personality traits do occasionally manifest themselves, generally during our quieter times. For example, Eric and I were shocked to see Adam participating in the cake eating. He doesn't like to eat any food that he can't eat with his fingers and it was a big thing to see him pick up a fork.
As you can see, he made several carefully neat holes in the middle of each side of the cake. The clean lines of this process left me in no doubt that Adam had been here.
Caleb is my sugar boy (which is why he had to have so many of his teeth capped last month) and thought the idea of cake was amazing.
As you can see, in the end it wasn't really the cake that thrilled him but the frosting. He also ate a good deal of sprinkles as he helped me apply them to the cake. Once again, I knew Caleb had been here.
James is our most proficient eater. He loves to eat what we eat (Adam and Caleb don't) and tries hard to be a thorough eater.
I was very impressed with his ability to both manage a utensil and be so indifferent towards his cake, frosting, and sprinkles. He ate them all in turns and enjoyed them all equally. As always, James was all in and focused on his task at hand. This is a plate that only my James could have left.
The birthday boy was so, so cute. He had a fork at some point but he abandoned it to use the hand over fist method.
When he was done with that process he grabbed the whole plate and started to shovel it in.
Eventually the plate was sacrificed to the floor. You would think this would mean that he had eaten it all but he had actually just smeared most of it on his body and pushed more of it down beside him in the highchair. This was totally a David move.
We, of course, bought the birthday boy some presents although we used most of the money from grandparents etc. for diapers. We just have so many toys from Christmases and Birthdays past that we wanted to wait until he could actually fully appreciate an expensive toy before we bought another one.
He seemed not to mind at all and thought this bag full of goodies was pretty awesome.
Cutest birthday boy EVER!!!!!! Goodness I love him!
