The Lights At Temple Square

Usually in December I make up an advent calendar of activities to do as a family. However, this year I am pregnant and caring for four boys age six and under so I traded in the long activity calendar for a drive up to Temple Square to see the lights. We dressed the boys as warm as we could but our little Caleb is very sensitive to the cold and started to complain almost as soon as we got out of the car. That meant that the first thing we did when we got to temple square was visit one of the visitors centers to warm up.

Here the boys are examining a statue of Joseph Smith. I think they were a little confused.

We also saw a huge rotating globe. David kept saying "ball, ball, ball."

We left the first visitors center only to be almost immediately driven into a second one by Caleb's complaints. He obviously has absolutely no tolerance for cold. Here's hoping they send him somewhere warm when mission time comes. Here the three oldest are examining an oxen yoke.

And here is David trying to get in with the oxen yoke. This boy needs a leash or something at all times.

Happy David smiling for mom.

James taking his turn.

Caleb complaining about the cold.

Adam thinking that this whole thing was just wonderful.

So, very, very wonderful. He loves Christmas lights.

After a few minutes walking around outside we decided we better make our way back to the van to help Caleb warm up. We passed by a pond on the way out and Caleb was thankfully, momentarily distracted.

Adam had twelve million questions and comments about the experience, of course.

David spent almost all of his time in Eric's arms for safety purposes. I swear we are going to lose him one day with his drop and run tactics.

We also saw some Sister Missionaries caroling on our way out.

This was James's response to their singing.

And this was Adam's. I think they couldn't quite figure out why those people were singing outside in the cold.

One more stop at the reflection pool and then we were gone. As you can see, Caleb was still cold......

And James was starting to think that it was probably time for us to leave too. I'd say that given the temperature and the enormous amount of people there, our trip was a success. Can't wait to do it next year. Perhaps with an extra layer of clothes for the Caleb man.
