Caleb Is Three

My Caleb turned three last month. He is just about the cutest three-year-old ever and I am so blessed to be his mom. Caleb loved his birthday this year which made it all the more fun for Eric and me. I adore when they are aware of and can participate in all the excitement that is happening around them. April birthdays were a little rushed this year because of Eric's work and a trip to California but the boys didn't seem to notice. I think I have a few more years of that, thank goodness.

The birthday boy. Everytime I ask him to smile this is what he does. I don't know whether to be amused or scared. I wasn't able to make a cake that day because I was getting ready for our trip the next day so we swung by Sams Club and picked up some cupcakes. Caleb seemed perfectly happy to skip the homemade cake. I wonder if I should be insulted.....

I discovered too late that I had run out of birthday candles so we substituted with some wicks that I pulled out of some votives. Caleb didn't seem to notice the difference. Probably because he was too distracted by the small campfire before him.

Caleb's present was especially large this year (a rescue bots fire station for those who are interested) and he had the biggest smile on his face when we brought it downstairs. It was so big that I didn't have enough wrapping paper to cover the back. Luckily he is three so he started unwrapping where we pointed.

He finally made a hole big enough to realize what it was. That excited look was for his dad.

We couldn't slow him down after that.

He also got some vinyl construction stickers to put up in his room. Adam has Mario stickers and I think Caleb was feeling left out. Unfortunately he and James loved the stickers too much and there are only five or so left in a high corner of his room.

Why all the sad faces on such a happy day you may ask? Adam wanted it to be his birthday and not Caleb's. Caleb is stressed about everyone else wanting to play with his new toy. James can't understand why the toy isn't for him as well as Caleb. And then there is David. Do you see him there in the corner? David is just hunky-dory, thank you very much. Why is that, do you ask?

Because he found a piece of the toy's box to play with and what could be better than that? Oh that we all could have the simple needs of a ten-month-old.
