We're In The Garden

One of my fondest (yes, I can say that now because it was so many years ago and I'm getting old) memories from my childhood is working in the garden. I love the dirt, the growing plants, and working as a family. I so enjoy when we go to my parent's house and my boys get to have the same kind of experiences that I did when I was growing up.

It was strawberry season when we arrived at my parent's house and my dad spent some time in the mornings and evenings picking. James was such a good helper. I think he liked being in the cool green plants and spending some alone time with grandpa.

They even picked enough to share some with the turtles. Spoiled reptiles.

All of my boys finally made it out to help grandpa pick. You can see that there was some minor distraction going on.

This is what a bucket of freshly picked strawberries should look like.

However, when you are Caleb.....

Oh yes, when you are Caleb.....

Your strawberry bucket ends up looking something like this. I don't know if there is an unmarred one in the bunch. It's a good thing Grandma and Grandpa don't charge for their goods.

James found a way to wander off and bury himself in plants again.

Grandpa also rototilled while we were there. The boys were a little wary of the loud engine but loved the freshly tilled dirt that magically appeared beneath grandpa's feet.

Adam had to stop after a bit because the dirt was too dirty for him but Caleb and James persisted.

They even found some cups to add another layer of interest to their fun in the dirt.

James was soon throwing dirt everywhere.

And Caleb brought a few cupfuls over to share with me.

Even David found some discarded cups and joined the fun.

In the end they all looked like this. Yes, the whole experience did indeed lead to an unplanned bath night. Gotta love being a kid.
