So it seems that Grandpa Todd is incapable of doing anything on his own these days. He is helpless when it comes to things like gardening, car repair, and fixing swingsets. It's a good thing the Berg boys descended en masse to lend a helping hand and give him correction and guidance when needed. Oh how we love helping Grandpa Todd!
Grandpa Todd and Grandma Pamela put in a new swingset this year and it was a big hit with the boys. Grandpa noticed that there was still some tweaking that needed to be done to it and got his tools out to start the job. The Berg Boys were right there to help him out. Adam was perfectly happy to regale him with multiple stories while he worked.
Caleb and James found their own tools and started "working" too.
A man with pliers is a happy man.
See?! I told you.
James loves helping out.
My workers.
Grandpa also needed some help bringing some potting soil up to the porch plants.
And some help putting it around the plants. Dirt and shovels = boys in heaven.
I'm always surprised when Adam is willing to get dirty. There was a time when that wouldn't have even been an option for him mentally.
Caleb is always a happy helper.
Focused on the task at hand.
James often gets thirsty on the job. It's a good thing Grandpa was already watering.
Look at that smile!
A very tired David handling the wheelbarrow. Willing to work even into the wee hours of the night.
Happy Berg boys.
A disheveled, dirty baby with a can. So, so cute.
I had to throw this in here even though I know I'm not grandpa. After all, work is work. Grandma Pamela and I were making some strawberry lemonade concentrate (yum!) in the kitchen and the electronic lemon juicer was making a lot of noise. James decided that anything that made that much noise must be fun to use. He pushed a chair up to the counter and took over the juicing for me. Look at that concentration!
Obviously not a picture moment in James's mind.
Grandpa also needs help when he works on cars. David was just waiting for a tool to drop and become fair game.
He also needs help building the fire for the cookout. As you can see, the boys don't really understand the concept of starting small. Only big logs for them, thank you very much!
Caleb's contribution.
The happy fire builder.
Grandpa also needs plenty of help in the garden.
Caleb was Grandpa's best gardener this trip. He learned lots of new words like squash and black eyed peas. Even now he asks me if we can go outside and pick some squash.
David found the dirt enchanting.
Grandpa had plenty of black eyed peas that needed to be picked and hulled while we were there. Caleb really got into his work picking. David really got into his work removing the beans they were putting in the bucket.
Such a helpful boy.
After we picked the beans we needed to hull them. Caleb made sure to stand right by Grandpa when he did his hulling. They even shared a bowl.
Deep in concentration.

James tried his hand at hulling the beans as well. He did pretty well for his age.
Look at what all that hard work produced! Helping Grandpa sure is fun!
